Statement from Mark Gaither
Declaración de Mark Gaither

Dear Wolfe Street Academy Community,

It seems as if each day the news brings us one more tragedy, one more trauma, one more example of how people treat each other with contempt and disdain. The constant procession of violent acts, hurtful words and human suffering weighs on all of us.

Yet, I want to pass on words of reassurance to each of you regarding our community. Our community is strong, resilient, and hopeful. All of this is true because of the strength we have developed over the past nearly two decades of establishing strong relationships between families and staff, students and teachers, and the school and neighborhood. These relationships are not just productive but protective. They allow us to know each other, celebrate our joys and successes together, mourn loses, and work together to keep each other safe.

Wolfe Street will continue to maintain a safe working and learning environment. We will continue to welcome the community of which we are a part into the building but will identify and record those who visit our building. We will continue our vigilance of those coming to our building, keeping doors locked, students together, and stressing to all of our students that they are never to open exterior doors for anyone, even a family member. And we will continue to practice all of the routines and procedures that will keep us safe.

Our flag will fly at half-staff until Saturday in respect and remembrance of those who died yesterday in Texas. In the coming days if you or your children need any support dealing with the emotions that might arise from these horrific events, please reach out to us. We have specialists who can help.

Thank you all.
